Watons Water Champions Challenge 2005 - News Update

Hong Kong (03 Jan 2005)

The Hong Kong Tennis Patrons' Association today announced details of its decision to contribute to the Tsunami disaster fund. This contribution will come from the proceeds of the Watsons Water Champions Challenge.

The President, Mr. Colvin Brown said, "At an Executive Committee Meeting this morning, we agreed the following:

We will donate HK$500,000 from our gate receipts to the Red Cross. This will equate to around 20%-25% of our ticket sales.

At the Finals on Saturday, we will also conduct a fund raising auction with autographed rackets and other items donated by the players.

For members of the public who also want to make a contribution, there will be donation boxes at the Tournament.

Furthermore, Watsons Water will donate all proceeds from their water sales at the event to the fund.

The Meeting also agreed that we will start the Opening Ceremony on Wednesday 5th January with one minute of silence."

Mr. Colvin Brown went on to add "The TPA sends its condolences to the victims and families of the disaster. We pray that the efforts of the Relief Organizations will help ease some of the pain."
