Can The Power Of The Nation's Minds Give Rooney Miracle?

Superdrug invites Uri Geller to activate the nation in a collective national enhancement

London (4 May 2006)

In the week that England's World Cup hopes are dashed due to the injury of the England football team's key striker, Wayne Rooney, Superdrug shoppers in England were asked to perform a very important task. As the nation worried and Wayne Rooney's metatasal misery took on epic proportions, Superdrug invited world famous motivator Uri Geller to lead a national positive energy session from its Oxford Street store.

Gerry Murphy, Marketing Director of Superdrug said: "Our job this week is to help Uri channel the nation's energy into helping Rooney's foot heal quicker. We know our six million English shoppers want Wayne in the world cup so we'll do everything and anything in our capacity to help."

This Friday (5th May), Superdrug shoppers will be asked to perform a very important task. As the nation worries and Wayne Rooney's metatarsal misery takes on epic proportions, Superdrug has invited world famous motivator Uri Geller to lead a national positive energy session from its Oxford Street store.

Four years ago when David Beckham broke his foot Uri appeared on national television, asking the nation to help him send positive thoughts to Beckham. Was it only medical treatment and coincidence that his foot healed remarkably quickly and Beckham then played? Cynics may scoff, sceptics might laugh, but what have we got to lose?

In preparation for the positive thinking session Superdrug has sent foot pampering packs of new Foot Heaven scrubs, creams and relaxing foot soaks to the players expected to make up Sven's squad. Each player has also been sent an invitation to join the nation in sending their positive thoughts to their team-mate at the appointed time. All 10,000 Superdrug staff across England have been given leave to join the session. A live link of the session taking place in store will also be beamed directly into Superdrug's Croydon head office where a life size Wayne Rooney figure will be placed to enable staff to visualise rubbing his foot psychologically to amplify the powerful positive energy.

Uri will focus on a further life-size Wayne Rooney figure, and begin the session at 1.11pm ¡V the optimum time for collective healing enhancement to take place ¡V and shoppers will be asked to join Uri in 30 seconds silence. Tannoys on Oxford Street will ask everyone to join Uri in the process, and every English Superdrug store will ask their shoppers to join in the session.

Uri Geller said: "I am not a healer, nor a miracle worker but I am a huge believer in the power of the mind. Call it the power of human consciousness. Call it the power of human potential. Call it the power of prayer. Call it meditation. Call it visualization. Call it the power of healing or call it the power of positive thinking. Whatever works for you best.

"We will ask Britons to use every power that they have in their mind to send Wayne Rooney positive thoughts. No matter how bizarre and unconventional this looks, we have nothing to lose. We're asking the nation to focus their minds on Rooney and to actually believe that they are all sending him a healing energy and positive thought waves. Parallel to the medical treatment that he is receiving and having the best physio team around him, if Wayne Rooney knows and feels that a whole nation is focusing positive energy into him, Wayne will feel so much stronger and positive and it is a fact that if an injured or ill person is in a positive frame of mind they will most likely heal faster. Ask any doctor."

Gerry Murphy, Marketing Director of Superdrug said: "Our job this week is to help Uri channel the nation's energy into helping Rooney's foot heal quicker. We know our six million English shoppers want Wayne in the world cup so we'll do everything and anything in our capacity to help." Scotsman Murphy continued: "Every Scotsman remembers Euro '96 when Uri psycho-kinetically moved the ball off the penalty spot, causing Gary McAllister to miss, and England to win. But we won't hold that against him, honest. I'm sure my fellow countrymen will join me in wishing Uri every success in his session on Friday." Yes Gerry, we believe you, but we think you may need more than Uri Geller's help to make that happen.

Uri added: "Even if it turns out that Sven Goran Eriksson chooses not to take Rooney to the World Cup after all, the session will send positive winning thoughts to the rest of the squad."
