Continuing
its expansion into Eastern and New Europe,
A.S. Watson in 2004 acquired Drogas, a leading
health & beauty chain operating in Latvia
and Lithuania.
Established in 1993, Drogas was the first self-service store chain selling household goods, general merchandise and health & beauty products in the Baltics States. Over the years, Drogas has become one of the best-known health & beauty brand names in the region. In 2001, the company was named "Best retailer in Latvia" by the leading business newspaper Dienas Bizness.
Drogas opened its first store in Lithuania
in 2001 and since then has grown steadily. Currently, the chain has
more than 850 employees and operates over 110 stores in Latvia and Lithuania.
The
chain carries a range of high-quality and
good-value merchandise that is similar with
the retail concept of other A.S. Watson's
health & beauty operations, selling
over 10,000 product lines, including cosmetics,
fragrances, personal care products, household
goods, fashion accessories, toys, stationery
and gifts.
Apart from the excellent sales service, the stores themselves are characterised by simple and customer-friendly formats. Drogas scores consistently high marks in customer satisfaction surveys, especially in promotions, locations and convenience. The recently launched "Price Guarantee" campaign is the first of its kind in the Baltic region, reflecting Drogas' commitment to quality and value.
A.S.
Watson plans to enlarge the business to
more than 500 stores regionally with Estonia,
Scandinavia, Russia and the former Soviet
States seen as prime areas for expansion.
