Superdrug
was founded in 1964 and has grown to become one of the UK's leading health & beauty retailers, operating over 900 stores in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland.
Superdrug is the UK's most fashion conscious beauty & health retailer and committed to bringing innovation and the latest styles and trends to every high street in the UK and Southern Ireland at fantastic prices. It brings new and beautiful brands to customers exclusively and secures exclusives ahead of any other UK retailer. All Superdrug stores have a fragrance offer and 226 stores have pharmacies with pharmacy consulting rooms.
Recently, Superdrug has announced a £46m beauty investment programme which will see 440 stores receive a beauty face lift during 2007 with the remainder receiving this make-over in 2008 and in a further £23 million expansion, ten stores will receive the new pink fascia treatment in 2007 and stores in every major city will be turning pink by the end of 2008.
Superdrug is a challenging brand on behalf of its customers. After a ten month campaign lobbying the UK Government to slash the VAT on condoms, in the 2006 Budget, the Chancellor slashed the VAT on condoms from 17.5 per cent to five per cent. Its latest campaign is to reduce the VAT on kids' sun care products and a lobbying campaign to get the Government to reclassify sun cream as an essential health item rather than a luxury beauty item is currently underway.
Being a responsible retailer and good corporate citizen, Superdrug launched a long term partnership with the Prince's Trust since 2006 to support young people with potential through a programme of fund-raising, employee involvement and creating job opportunities. It has also joined forces with the Institute of Cancer Research to raise funds and awareness about the effects of skin cancer through its SAFE (Skin Awareness for Everyone) Campaign.
A key element to the brand's success is ensuring that Superdrug's team is trained to give customers the service and quality they deserve. Through its retail academy team members are given the skills, confidence and knowledge to offer customers the best beauty and health advice on the high street. It has also signed up to the Government's skills pledge to ensure that all young people who work for Superdrug receive the necessary basic vocational and educational skills through a modern apprenticeship scheme. |
