In
the past decade, the PARKnSHOP
chain of supermarkets has grown into one of the
region's largest food retailing concerns, operating
some 250 stores in North and South China, Hong Kong
and Macau. Development is based on meeting the needs
of an increasingly affluent population whose expectations
of quality and convenience are rising every year.
PARKnSHOP's major strengths
are its spacious modern stores, wide product range,
quality fresh food, everyday low prices, customer
service and advanced technology.
Hong Kong's first ever Superstore opened in 1996
at Whampoa Garden (45,000 sq. ft), combining the
Western supermarket concept with a traditional Hong
Kong wet market. They offer traditional Chinese
fresh food like live fish, siu mei and lo mei and
market-style fruit and vegetables as well as the
most extensive range of international products.
In 2002, PARKnSHOP opened
its first Megastore in Metro City, Tseung Kwan O
(72,000 sq. ft.) giving customers a modern one-stop
shopping solution. In addition to the unrivalled
range of fresh food and groceries, a wide range
of general merchandise is available, including bedding
and towels, kitchen supplies, toys, clothes and
the latest music and movies.
PARKnSHOP has pioneered a
major shift towards higher health and hygiene standards.
In 1998, it established Hong Kong retailing's first-ever
dedicated food-safety laboratory as part of its
innovative Fresh Check campaign. This was followed
by the establishment of its own Fresh Check Hygiene
Academy for staff and supplier training. PARKnSHOP
also built Asia's first multi-temperature distribution
and processing centre, utilising modern computerised
facilities, at a cost of US$30 million.
The chain carries two own-label product lines, namely
PARKnSHOP and Best Buy, first
introduced in 1995. The range provides shoppers
with the best alternatives when looking for quality
everyday items at the lowest possible prices. |
