City Food Drive 2016

PARKnSHOP joined hands with Food Angel and launched the “City Food Drive” campaign. Six categories of food were donated by the public at 280 retail stores of the Hong Kong supermarket chain. PARKnSHOP collected and delivered the donated items to Food Angel, to be prepared into hot meals for those in need.
To elevate the impact of the charitable efforts, PARKnSHOP matched donations of SELECT brand items by the public.
Over 26,000 items were collected from the public. Together with PARKnSHOP’s matching donation and the funds raised in stores, the campaign collected nearly 40,000 food items and made a contribution of over HK$1 million to Food Angel.

Our Position on Microplastic

Microplastic is a synthetic polymer (plastic) particle in solid form, insoluble in water and commonly used as exfoliants in rinse-off cosmetics/personal care products such as face/body scrubs.

Due to their small size (<5mm) they often pass through sewage water filtration systems and can pollute waterways. There are concerns on their environmental and safety impacts on the food chain as they can be ingested by fishes and marine organisms.

Taking positive steps ahead of legislations in their markets, A.S. Watson subsidiaries which carry Own Brand products have already banned the use of microplastic in rinse-off cosmetics/personal care scrub products since 2014, and they will be removed from shelf by 2017.

PARKnSHOP Food Lab Accredited

PARKnSHOP Hong Kong’s Food Safety Laboratory was recently granted the Accreditation for Organochlorine Pesticides Residue Testing under the Hong Kong Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (HOKLAS), recognising PARKnSHOP’s competency in conducting professional tests on food to ensure customers’ health and safety.
Currently, only seven laboratories were accredited by HOKLAS for testing organochlorine pesticides, and PARKnSHOP was the first supermarket chain in Hong Kong to be granted with this accreditation. Back in 2008, PARKnSHOP was also the first retailer in Hong Kong to earn the HOKLAS accreditation for microbiological testing of foods.
